Low cost PR
The Comment:
Martin Poad, M.D., GM Computer Systems:
‘GM Computer Systems has been trading for ten years in the competitive field of IT solutions, so when our anniversary came around, we wanted to publicise the achievement. Sara was quickly able to form a picture of what GMCS does well and translate the technical aspects into an interesting and informative piece of writing aimed at the local papers. It worked. The company came across as friendly and customer focussed. After the article appeared, there was definitely a knock-on effect for us. Not only did we pick up fresh referrals, we gained more publicity in the business press as well.’
The Result:
Successful publicity in the local press resulted in follow-up features in B2B Magazine and Business South West.

CBW: A community action group run by volunteers
The Method:
Through research and editing I compiled an extensive body of evidence in support of the campaign. This formed the basis of the group website. Regular press releases and letter writing kept the issues at the forefront of the debate.
The Comment:
1. G. Price, formerly of CBW:
‘I would like to extend my thanks as a former member of CBW and now a supporter, for the hours of work that you have put in. The website is brilliant, clear concise, eye catching and professional. The presentation and content are exceptional, and it has mapped the progress of the campaign and the many issues related to it. It draws on both your website design and media backgrounds, and has been instrumental in raising awareness and support for CBW.’
2. CarlyonBayWatch Press Release:
‘….there is now a growing body of expert evidence, from advisory bodies, statutory consultees and coastal research reports on the new web site…. it is well researched and robust. As a voluntary organisation, CBW operate on a shoestring, the web gives us a unique and democratic way of bringing new information to public notice on a small budget.’
The Result:
In 2007 the single-issue campaign achieved its objective. Sufficient publicity and public awareness was created to pressurise the authorities to call a Public Inquiry into The Beach proposals. The application to build a new sea wall on part of the south Cornish coastline was refused.
